Production Diary #12

As I've been analysing music videos which I like and seeing what aspects I like about them, it has given me even more ideas as to what to put in my own. I've seen little aspects of editing, and transitions in which I would like to incorporate as they look doable and cool.

Production Diary #10

Just wanted to update you before I go to Sheffield that I am going to a festival today and leaving pretty soon. It's all the way in Sheffield, which is about a 4 hour drive away, to see four of my favourite bands. I had originally planned to go and see my band (A season of secrets) perform, however they had to pull out due to issues. This didn't stop me however because I want to still go for the enjoyment but also to see how filming would be. I'm going to take my Canon 550 D there and see if I can get any cool shots, or even pictures which will help me with my planning and production of my music video. I mean who knows? I could even use some of the footage I get if its decent? So I wont be bogging for a few days, but i'll be back with a whole review and video from the event!

Production Diary #9

So far I've been doing a lot of research about music videos and how they are published and viewed. I have also noticed whilst researching that there seems to be no channel who carters for my genre in specific. Kerrang would probably be the most closest channel who would air my genre on their show, however I did stumbled on some small, independent music channels on sky who just air new and upcoming bands who hardly anyone has heard of. Also researching into the history of my genre I have seen for myself how the genre has changed over the years to fit in with the audience. Pop punk was originally all about the music and fans, whilst now it seems to be all about the image. Bands like Bowling for soup had a great success back in the 1990's whereas if they were to be released now they would get no attention due to their appearance. I found this really interesting whilst researching as I would have to take into consideration this change and make sure my audience now would like my video.

Production Diary #8

This week I'm going to focus on doing most of my research to help me do my planning.
A part of it is to look at music video directors, as this is a curtail and important part to any music video. Searching the internet I have found that there are thousands and thousands of them all over the world. A lot of these then go on to make films or even work for large music companies. Three of them interested me the most because they have made videos similar to my genre. One in particular Tyler the creator, who is recently young and new, is in fact not only a director but the engine of his whole group ‘Odd Future’. Most of these directors are successful for doing a narrative with a performance music video as this is what works the best.

Production Diary #7

A few days ago we had a lesson on green screening and finding out how it works. For the first time we all got a chance to do this, as we took it in turns to read out our pitch in front of the green screen and record it. The recording part was Fairley easy to do however it was the editing on Adobe premiere which tested our skills. We did get help from a Youtube tutorial however which I found very helpful. I’m not that familiar with the software it’s self but with the step to step guide it became much clearer.
Playing with all the parts and effects was really fun to learn and get the hang of, as there was so much you could do with it. You could make a plain colour background, a picture, video or even duplicate yourself as well as change the size and position of you so you could be anywhere on the screen. I managed to combine all of these elements in my short video and play around with the transitions and colours a bit. It came out better than I expected however I did find it hard to make it look real and professional, as this was my first go at it, I can learn from this later on and get better and better.

Production Diary #6

After scanning the internet I found out that the three biggest record labels included a wide range of genres rather than just one. I also found that they were then partnered with smaller ones which they owned. However a more interesting label came up, which was Fearless records. They are a much smaller and unique one as they aren't teamed up with the large company's but cater for a much smaller unique market. As my genre is pop-punk and they recent are signed to a lot of pop punk bands, fearless records seems like the kind of company I would sign to my band.

Alongside that I have also looked more into one of the bands I wish to use, and actually go into good contact with them and dissucced other ideas and plans you will find in my pitch.
